lent 2015

Photo of empty paper bagLent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock. It is a time to prepare for Easter, knowing the suffering and life Jesus gave for us. It is a season to rededicate our faith in the one true God. It is a season of 40 days, excluding weekends, when we withdraw to the wilderness to examine what keeps us from a deeper relationship with Jesus.  Watch Lent is for Life, from our friends at St. Edward Parish  How will you live into the season of Lent?

We are working with the metaphor of paper bags. What do you carry in your bag that weighs you down and gets in the way of your relationships? What do you want to add to your bag that is life-giving?

  • On 2/22, we put Barbarajean's 30 Day Transformation Challenge (Microsoft Word format) into our bag. It includes activities we can do as families to change our lives during Lent.
  • On 3/1 we were invited to put a Spiritual Gifts Inventory in our bag, take it home and complete it and use our gifts to help the church and our world.
  • On 3/8, we were introduced to the idea of a "reverse tithe," were invited to take $20 from the offering plate and report our experiences on Pentecost.
  • On 3/15, we received cards giving church worship times and address to use when inviting people to church.
  • On 3/22, we learned about forms of prayer, played a prayer game and received candles to use when we pray.
