About Planting Seeds of Hope Community Garden

Who We Are

Our garden is a 3-part charter agreement of 1/3 church members, 1/3 surrounding community non-church members, and 1/3 immigrant populations. When we are full, our land supports vegetable growing for approximately 28 individuals and their families. All garden plots are rented by their gardener to grow their own vegetables at a cost of $32 per season. This fee covers the cost of water, compost, and rototilling.

Caring for Our Community and Environment

Food Shelf Donations - In addition to our rented garden plots, we also have designated food shelf plots where we plant, grow, and deliver fresh vegetables to surrounding food shelves. This is managed by the participating gardeners and church volunteers.

Vegetable Giveways - During the 2015 season, we hosted Vegetable Giveaways in July and September. Our gardeners donated vegetables from their plots to anyone who stopped by the Garden on these 2 days.

Organic Produce - New Life Presbyterian Church is an Earth Care Congregation. As a result we do not allow use of herbicides or pesticides and limit our use of fertilizers to only those that are approved by the Garden Coordinating Committee.

YOU are Welcome to Join Our Community!

Church volunteers are welcome to help with garden maintenance, manage food shelf plots and participate as gardeners. Designated clean up days have been added to keep the garden well managed. Check out our schedule! You are invited to join us on the last Saturday/Sunday of each month this summer to take care of regular garden weeding and maintenance.

We would appreciate any help, especially with weeding and hauling compost. Do you or someone you know want to garden? It’s a great service opportunity for young people! If you would like to help in the garden, please contact Darby or Michael.
